Straight from the land of Mardi Gras, Brian Tenclinger will arrive at Iowa State to take over as coordinator of greek affairs.

Tenclinger will head north from Tulane University in New Orleans and will begin planning activities and events in conjunction with ISU fraternities and sororities.

His first day at ISU will be Thursday.

Tenclinger brings with him a distinguished academic history and experience.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education from Northern Illinois University at Dekalb in 1989.

In addition, he worked on his master’s degree in secondary education administration and supervision at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, graduating in 1993.

Tenclinger also held a position as coordinator of university housing at Tulane University from July 1994 to August 1995.

He then shifted to coordinator of residence life at the university until May 1996, when he became Tulane University’s greek adviser.

The Interfraternity Council at ISU selected Tenclinger because of his broad interests and experience, Jeremy Wingerter, member of IFC, said.

“I feel confident he’ll do a good job because of his experience … he has dealt with situations such as Mardi Gras and may be able to shed some light on the Veishea situation,” he said.

Wingerter described Tenclinger as friendly and outgoing. He added that his new role should allow him to successfully interact with students.

“He has helped choreograph and work with the Urbandale [high school] band every summer, so he likes to do a lot of different things,” he said.

Wingerter also said Tenclinger contributed to the formation of a Rush hotline at Tulane University, which answers questions and helps people in the greek system become familiar with Rush.

He said IFC hopes he will bring new ideas and expertise to ISU.
