Cable changes again

Bill Ogier

To all TCI subscribers:

As some of you may have noticed, our wonderful cable provider has unexpectedly rehashed the channel listings. You may have noticed that USA and MTV are now at 98 and 99, respectively. But for those of you with a finer taste, you’ve already discovered that Cartoon Network is no longer broadcast 24 hours a day. It is now sharing channel 36 with the American Movie Classics channel, AMC. Cartoon Network is now on only from 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

AARRRGGGHHH!! What am I supposed to do during finals week now? Watch oldies all night while studying with my good friend Samuel Adams? That’s hardly as enjoyable as kicking back and watching the toons! Sure, we can still see daytime greats like the Flintstones, Voltron and Thundercats, but a good deal of the Cartoon Network’s better programming is in the evening. No more Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken or most importantly, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast!!!

A TCI representative said the changes were needed for some compression that will prepare our system for some 40 other channels, which won’t come for another six months. Boy, too bad I won’t be there then! Why couldn’t they have compressed some country station? Why mess with one of the few unique channels that we still have left?

For those of you who want the Cartoon Network NOW, the best thing to do right now is lodge a formal complaint.

EVERYBODY, call: (800) 262-3843 and raise hell! Let’s jam their phone lines with pissed off students! Des Moines managed to bring back MTV when it was stolen from them, maybe we can get the Cartoon Network back. Until then, the only Space Ghost episodes out there will those on a VCR tape. Let your voice be heard.
