Mojos founders prepare for final show
December 3, 1997
As the semester ends, so does the performance season of the satirical sketch comedy of Grandma MoJos Moonshine Revival.
And, after a semester of on-stage feats, the cast of Grandma MoJos has a lot to commemorate, including one of the group’s most successful semesters, selling out almost every show.
Perhaps the biggest off stage change however, is that founding members — Becky Witt and Josh Bryner — are leaving Grandma Mojos, both for different reasons.
For Witt, graduation looms overhead.
“It [performing in Grandma MoJos] was fun, but I’m ready to move on,” Witt, a graduating senior in psychology, said. “It’ll be nice to get away from the abuse.”
But Bryner is leaving because he feel the time has come — the time to retire.
“Becky and I pretty much had the show for the last year and a half,” Bryner, a senior in math, said. “I figure it’s time for the old people to get outta there and let the new kids have it.
“There’s nothing profound about me retiring,” he continued. “It will be sad but I’ve pretty much done what I intended to do. It’s been a great experience. I’ve learned a lot and met a lot of incredibly cool people.”
And while Witt and Bryner move on, there is no doubt that Grandma MoJos will continue and maintain the same exuberance.
“We have a good cast and they have a whole semester of experience,” Witt said. “There has been a shifting in organization to be sure it will keep going.
“I just hope it continues [after next semester],” she added. “I would like to come back in five or even 10 years and see it, or something like it, still going.”
As part of the final show of the semester, Grandma MoJos will be performing a “very large Broadway number” and some Christmas skits plus selling the new “official” Grandma MoJos t-shirt.
“Admission is $11 and you get a free t-shirt,” Witt joked. “No one is official unless they have their own shirt.”
Without fail, Grandma MoJos will perform tonight at 10 p.m. in the M-Shop. As always, admission is $1 for ISU students with a fee card. The “official” Grandma Mojo’s t-shirt will be sold for $10.
