Defending Kum & Go

Kendra L. Daly

Dear “Ohio Guy,”

May I introduce myself? I am Kendra Daly, director of public relations for Krause Gentle Corporation.

After reading your column in the Nov. 12 edition of the Iowa State Daily, I realized even some about-to-be college graduates are still undereducated.

Mr. W.A. Krause, president of the 156 Kum & Go stores in the Midwest, recently spoke to 500 individuals at ISU’s Business Week Luncheon by invitation of Dean of Business Ben Allen and professor Mary Harms. Apparently, he was warmly received by the student body who clamored with questions afterward.

Kum & Go is a proud sponsor of both the Cyclone football and basketball teams.

Annually, Krause and Gentle Corporation gives over 10 percent of its profits back to the communities it serves. This includes being the No. 1 fund-raising convenience store in the United States for Juvenile Diabetes Sneaker Sales.

Kum & Go (that’s ampersand, not “N”) represents the founders’ last names — Krause and Gentle.

I wonder why you bother stopping and visiting our excellent location three to four times a week if, in fact, you miss the “nice and friendly atmosphere?” Incidentally, on the average, we employ 37 ISU students in Story County.

Welcome to the corporate world, sir. As a public-relations senior, I would have cautiously scrutinized printing your work — not many business professionals I know would take to your undereducated writing style.

I hope your resume comes across more intelligent than your “opinion.” I guarantee you won’t be a threat to any one of your comrades who are diligently job-seeking in the public-relations field.
