Hip-hop Web site keeps DJs informed

Taking a phrase coined by Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan and turning it into a Web site, the creators of hippatodahoppa.com are trying to strike a balance between the cutting edge of pop and the soul of hip-hop music and culture.

Lamont Williams works with both coasts in keeping the site fresh. One of the most popular features of the site is the Sure Shot Singles, with reviews by California’s “DJ O-Dub,” who has his own Web site called the O-Zone.

“Our advice to you is to keep this hip-hop site in your bookmarks or whatever,” Williams said, “because we will be filling it with underground, independent, unsigned and all sorts not-to-be-slept-on material.”

Williams also hinted at a possible deal with a “major record label” on the front page, and said he is “itching at the fingers” to talk about it but fears he shouldn’t say anything before the deal is final.

One of HippaToDaHoppa’s biggest roles is keeping DJs around the world in touch with independent labels and vinyl distributors so they can keep spinning records.

“We’ll be able to bring the latest releases usually on vinyl at low prices in the Online Store,” Williams said.

For example, the latest item new in the store is an Obscure Disorder 12″, featuring world champion DJ and member of the Invisible Skratch Piklz DJ A-Trak.

You would be hard-pressed to find this vinyl in any other online store or in any record store in your area, but HippaToDaHoppa has it, and more.

“A new design is in the works as well,” Williams said.

Everybody at HippaToDaHoppa is hoping Internet users will be patient while the site is re-laid out, and everything old is made new again.

“This site is updated each second day,” Williams said. “I promised some new information today, but bear with us during redesign — more on Thursday.”

While Web browsers are visiting HippaToDaHoppa.com, Williams suggests checking out the new singles from hip-hop legend Rakim and underground favorites AZ the Visualiza and Organized Konfusion.
