Not a prized writer

Chris Rickert

Recent articles by your prized sports columnist Chad Calek have have prompted me to question the paper’s integrity. It’s one thing to have an opinion and express it in a tactful manner, but it’s another thing to babble about nothing and make a complete idiot out of yourself.

This guy doesn’t evidently know how to present information and an opinion in a column. If he had any respect for himself, the school and your newspaper, he would be writing with a little bit more thought and content.

Over and over he has said his writing is all about fun and reactions, but seriously he needs to stop and think how many people read this. It’s not only students and faculty, but also area business people.

This isn’t good for your image. With this latest article about the Nebraska team and coaching staff, he has obviously pissed a lot of people off while others think it’s quite funny.

The fact that some people are offended by him should ring a bell in somebody’s head in that office. Not only do people think this excuse for a writer is an idiot, they associate this with the whole Iowa State Daily.

It comes down to a matter of respect and representation. Never in my life have I seen someone who’s represented an organization in such a way and continually get away with it. Being a writer for the Daily should be an honor. He obviously doesn’t see it this way. To an educated person, as the majority of people here are, it looks like a way to vent his stupidity.

I am proposing to let someone else write his column for him, maybe my 9-year-old brother. It would be nice to see sports editorials with some tact and meaning.

Has this guy been tested for drugs?
