Two Iowa State football players suspended
November 5, 1997
AMES (AP) — Iowa State athletic director Gene Smith has suspended two football players from the team on the recommendation of Coach Dan McCarney.
Jamel Joyner, a freshman wide receiver, and Shaka Jones, a sophomore linebacker, were suspended for actions that occurred in Ames last Saturday while the team was in Lawrence, Kan.
Other than noting that their conduct resulted in automatic suspension under athletic department policies, ISU officials would not say what the pair had done.
Joyner was a late signee and Jones was a walk-on.
Neither appears in any statistical category.
An ISU spokesman said the two could face further disciplinary action from McCarney, including dismissal from the team.
