A little less hectic
November 3, 1997
Students are by nature lovers of discounts and deals.
We ravage for pizza deals and many of us take advantage of alcohol specials, like ladies’ night and buck night, at Campustown bars.
And we all like to save a little change when it comes to paying for the daily domestic necessities that come with moving away from the comfort of home.
The planned upgraded shopping area on Lincoln Way is a prime example.
We will have the opportunity to make purchases at a new Hy-Vee, in addition to the already established Target store, Cyclone Liquors, Walt’s Hallmark, Little Caesar’s and more.
However, there is more to this than just shopping. If this area is to be as convenient as they say, a few other issues need to be addressed.
First, there are longstanding traffic problems along Lincoln Way. One of the most prominent of these is the entrance to the Target parking lot. Unless it’s late at night, motorists will find themselves waiting for what seems like light years to enter or exit the lot.
And with all the new construction and the realization of the problem the Lincoln Way entrance brings, more people are using the entrance on S. 3rd Street.
There is a congestion of vehicles in the parking lot now. And unless improvements are made, it will only get worse.
Perhaps traffic lights should be installed at both entrances to the parking lot.
That may make traffic less congested and create a less hectic situation for shoppers.
Also, officials should consider creating a road link to the already existing light that serves employees from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
We sincerely hope that these and the multitude of other traffic congestion problems be considered. It is necessary not only for the Iowa State community, but also for the city and surrounding areas.
