Iowa State University Dance and friends will be presenting their annual dance concert, Footfalls, this Sunday at 7 p.m.

Footfalls will be held in the Forker Building at the Toman Dance Studio Theater, formerly know as the Physical Education Building (PEB) in Room 196.

Footfalls has been a part of ISU dance for more than15 years, Janice Baker, assistant professor, said.

Members of numerous ISU dance teams and classes have been preparing for Footfalls this entire semester.

Classes from ISU featured at Footfalls will include ballet, tap, jazz, modern, composition, social and methods of dance for physical educators classes. The ISU Dance Tour Company and Dance Club Orchesis II will also be performing.

“This is our most ambitious Footfalls,” Baker said.

Footfalls features a variety of music, ranging from a dancing rendition of “Jailhouse Rock” to an organic dance called “The Shape of Breath,” with music by Vernon Windsor, ISU dance accompanist.

“I’m really excited for Footfalls. It’s my first time performing at ISU and it explores different types of dance — not necessarily what people are used to,” said Kristy Henry, sophomore in performing arts/speech communications.

“The whole concert will be rather informal,” Baker said.

There will be four sections in which anyone, including the audience, will be allowed to dance. There will also be a swing competition in which the audience can participate.

Footfalls is a chance to see anybody can participate in ISU dance, she said. Football players and an ISU heavyweight wrestler will also be featured.

“Footfalls is a window to the dance opportunities here at ISU,” Baker said. “It’s seeing your peers and what activities are available to students at ISU.”

Tickets will be available at the door and seating for Footfalls will begin at 6:45 p.m. The concert will last approximately one hour and 15 minutes. For more information, call 294-3047.
