Volleyball skid continues

The Iowa State volleyball team hosted two ranked conference foes once again this weekend and remained winless in the Big 12 after a pair of losses.
The team lost straight-set matches to both Colorado on Friday and Nebraska on Saturday.
“Our inability to sustain a high level of play has plagued us throughout the Big 12 season,” said coach Jackie Nunez.
ISU lost the first match of the weekend to 22nd-ranked Colorado, 15-7, 15-4, 15-9. Freshman Kelly Cizek led the Cyclone attack with a career-high 10 kills and a .286 hitting percentage. Cizek also collected three service aces.
Freshmen Jennifer Collins added six kills, and juniors Virginia Hoss and Colleen Henican contributed five kills each. Junior Julie McGrath set 27 assists.
Henican led the Cyclone defense with 11 digs and Cizek followed with seven.
Colorado finished with a .321 hitting percentage, and three Buffalo players recorded double-digit kills.
The following night, ISU dropped a three-game decisions to 13th-ranked Nebraska, 15-6, 15-2, 15-10.
“We did a lot of good things in game three, and at times we were extremely competitive with Nebraska,” Nunez said.
Henican led the team in kills with 11, as she compiled a .286 hitting percentage. Hoss nailed seven kills and Collins hit five. McGrath notched 31 assists.
Senior Heidi Rogers and Henican each served two aces.
Henican led all players with 13 digs. Rogers and Hoss scooped up eight digs each and Hoss recorded two solo blocks.
Nebraska hit .380 for the night, and three Cornhuskers finished with double-digit kill totals.
“We do brilliant things at times and then we struggle to sustain our play,” Nunez said.
The Cyclones’ conference record dropped to 0-14. Their overall record is currently 9-18. Iowa State continues conference action next weekend in Texas against Texas Tech and Baylor.
