A new climbing service, B and B Mountaineering is coming to central Iowa. rock climbing walls.
B and B, located in Kelley, now has 1,200 square feet of indoor rock climbing walls.
Three walls and a bouldering area have been completed. The highest of these walls is 35 feet.
The indoor wall and retail store will open Nov. 1., and B and B will be open daily from noon to 10 p.m.
The cost for climbing is $10 for an all-day pass, with group rates available.
Owner Ward Black said B and B is slowly working toward a goal of expanding its facility to 12,000 square feet.
Black also said B and B will eventually open a retail store along with the indoor wall. The store will contain climbing and camping gear for outdoor enthusiasts.
Black said the facilities allow customers “to climb in a safe environment.”
The most important element for safety, he said, is professional instruction, which B and B offers.
Harnesses and ropes are also provided to ensure safety.
The range also has different skill levels for different customers.
“We are the only indoor climbing facility in central Iowa,” Black said. There is only one other climbing wall in Iowa, located in the Quad Cities.
The company, owned by Elaine Serfass and brothers Ward and Chad Black, has been a guide and guide training service for the last 4 years.
Since 1993, they have trained more than 450 people.
Some of their clients have been the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
