Ice in Hilton?
October 6, 1997
They have a 4-0 record so far this year and their fan support is multiplying.
It’s an Iowa State sport that has some loyal followers, but deserves a little more recognition.
With everyone complaining about the performance of the football team, people need to realize other sports exist at ISU.
The ISU men’s hockey team is definitely a diamond in the rough.
The hockey team is something all Cyclones should be proud of.
Last year, the team finished near the top in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League; the year before they were first in the league.
And this year, the tournament is scheduled for play in Hilton Coliseum.
That’s right. There’s going to be ice in Hilton. Can we say “Hilton magic?” Having the tournament here on Cyclone turf — or should we say ice — is a great chance for the team to garner community and university support.
This coming weekend is dedicated to the parents and families of ISU students. Usually, the weekend focuses on a Saturday football game.
But this year, ISU parents will get the chance to see the Cyclones take the ice against North Dakota State.
It will be a first, just like the tournament in Hilton.
So, be prepared to get out your turtlenecks. Be prepared to yell with the Cyclones’ usual crowd.
And be prepared to have a good time.
Go to several hockey games this season. Mark game days on your calendars.
It will be pretty cool to see the Cyclones skate their way to another winning season.
But it will be the best to see Hilton filled with students, faculty and Ames residents cheering ISU to a championship banner.
