Sorority marks 75th anniversary with gift to Reiman Gardens
October 30, 1997
In honor of its 75th year at Iowa State, Chi Omega sorority is donating a bench to Reiman Gardens.
Pledge classes from 1987 to 1992 have set aside money with the anniversary gift in mind, Chrissy Lundeen, chapter president, said.
Phyllis Lepke, director of the Giving Program at the ISU Foundation, said they were “real pleased that Chi Omega turned to the Foundation for help with their commemoration.”
Lepke was a facilitator with Chi Omega.
She said the Foundation is always delighted to help organizations with commemorations, honoring another person or to help celebrate special occasions.
“All I did was provide the opportunities in what they were interested in,” Lepke said.
“We’re glad to donate the bench to Reiman Gardens and Iowa State considering all that they have done for us,” said JoEllen Kohlman, a junior in biochemistry and Chi Omega vice president.
A formal celebration will be held Nov. 8 at the Scheman Building with National Alumna officer Jane Rogers, from Memphis, speaking.
“We’re all pretty excited that Jane is coming,” Kohlman said. “We’ve never had a national member come and visit.”
After 75 years at ISU, the well-established chapter has a couple goals for this year.
“Not only are we hoping to grow in numbers, but we’re trying to get back to the six main purposes of Chi Omega,” Lundeen said.
The six main purposes of the chapter include scholarship, career and personal development, campus activities, social and personnel and community, she said.
The ISU Chi Omega chapter was founded on Oct. 20, 1922, with 25 charter members.
There are now 89 members.
