ISU’s Green missed classes, will miss game

Iowa State wide receiver Daman Green has been suspended for the Texas A & M game on Saturday for missing class time.

ISU Head Coach Dan McCarney made the announcement during McCarney’s weekly press conference on Tuesday.

“I won’t tolerate missing classes,” McCarney said. “I don’t like doing that because Daman Green is a fine, young man, and he’s a great contributor to our football team. But I will not tolerate not going to class, period. End of story.”

However, McCarney said it is very possible Green’s suspension will only be one game. ISU’s next game after Texas A & M is at home against Baylor on Oct. 25.

“[Green] won’t be with us this week, but hopefully if he does a good job from an attendance standpoint and [with] academics and classwork he’ll back for the Baylor game,” McCarney said.

ISU running back Jerome Heavens said the team’s academic rules are pretty well laid out.

“We all know that if we don’t go to class, that we will get into trouble,” Heavens said. “It really wasn’t a surprise because we know what the rules are. If we don’t abide by them, then we are in trouble.”

No player has been ruled academically ineligible in McCarney’s three seasons at ISU.
