ISU sorority wins national award
October 27, 1997
The Iowa State chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma is the proud recipient of the Founder’s Circle Award, presented annually by Kappa Kappa Gamma’s National Organization.
The ISU chapter received the award for completing 94 percent of the criteria for the Challenge of Excellence.
Some of these requirements include philanthropic activities and having an all-house grade point average that surpasses the Panhellenic Council average.
Monica Stuart, president of Kappa Kappa Gamma, received word in early October from the regional director of chapters for Kappa Kappa Gamma, notifying her the sorority had won.
The award recipients were also recognized in The Key, a Kappa Kappa Gamma national publication.
“We have won awards before, but never to this degree,” Stuart said.
The Founder’s Circle Award was presented to six of 127 chapters nationwide.
“Our chapter has done a lot and it is nice to be recognized,” Stuart said.
“We are just reporting on what we’re already doing,” she said.
Kappa Kappa Gamma chapters must submit a report detailing all of their activities to apply for Challenge of Excellence Awards. Awards are given for completing varying degrees of criteria.
Nine chapters which completed 100 percent of the criteria won the Challenge of Excellence overall award.
The Golden Key award is presented to chapters which complete at least 87 percent of the criteria.
Kappa Kappa Gamma chapters must reapply for the award each year.
Once they have received the award, they are challenged to maintain the same high standards for the next school year.
