I am saddened to hear of the incidents involving the Department of Public Safety, Ames police and the students after Iowa State’s win Saturday. Since I was a freshman in 1990, I have witnessed an ongoing relationship between students and enforcement officials filled with mistrust and a lack of mutual respect. Saturday’s events can only serve to perpetuate the ill will that has existed for so many years.

Goal posts can always be replaced. Trust and respect cannot.
