Unnatural disorder
October 15, 1997
Over the past couple of weeks, many people have written letters or articles on the topic of homosexuality. In Gloria Stewart’s front-page article, it is noted that to be a homosexual ally one must “know that homosexuality is not a disorder.”
Alexander Abian talked about the “overwhelmingly profound bisexual, homosexual, etc. tendencies among species.” On Thursday, October 9, Tara Deering quoted Judd Harbin as saying, “As God as my witness, being gay or lesbian is not a sin.”
Men and women, we as a society have been deceiving ourselves. It is time we realize that not only is homosexuality a disorder and unnatural, it is indeed sin. God’s Word, the Bible, frequently points this out. “Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God,” (I Corinthians 6:10, New American Standard version).
“The … law is … for those who are lawless and rebellious … immoral men and homosexuals …” (1 Timothy 1:9-10). “You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination” (Leviticus 18:22).
The apostle Paul says in his letter to the Romans, “God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error” (Romans 1:26-27).
Leviticus 2 l: 13 says, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lies with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act.” References to the condemnation of homosexual behavior can also be found in Isaiah (chapter three, verse nine) and Genesis (chapter nineteen). Arguing that God does not see homosexuality as sin is not rational safe ground.
If I may digress for a moment, I would like to point out that I sin everyday. I do not say this with pride, but to point out that, as the Bible says, “there is none righteous, not even one” (Romans 3: 10).
My purpose in writing this is not to harass, but to help. My sin deserves the same eternal damnation as the next person’s. However, because I believe that Jesus Christ is God, that He lived a perfect, sinless life, that He died on a cross to pay the penalty for my sin, and that He rose victoriously over death to be my Savior and Lord, I will be able to go to heaven when I die.
A major reason that God gave us law in the Bible was that He wanted us to realize that we are not perfect, but He is. Everything we do that God calls sin has with it the penalty of eternity apart from Him, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Just because Jesus died for sin does not mean that we are automatically saved. We must individually ask Jesus to be our personal Savior and Lord. John wrote, “But as many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1: 121).
When we sin, our response should be sorrow and repentance. Homosexuals seem to have a different response. They want their lifestyle affirmed by others, even “celebrated.” Paul also wrote of those who condone and accept sinful behavior:
“And although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them” (Romans 1:32).
Homosexuality is a sin, just like the many sins that I commit everyday. By the grace of God I am forgiven, loved and accepted. I also strive to make myself a better person everyday by His power.
If you want true love and forgiveness, may I suggest turning to Jesus? He wants to forgive you, too.
