True Christianity
October 31, 1997
This is in response to letters by David Hahn and R.F. Heynis. I feel that both of these individuals have lost sight of what Christianity is.
Now, whether or not you believe in Christianity is, of course, your decision. I shall not judge you, nor do I wish you would judge Christianity based upon what Mr. Wlazlowski deems to be his interpretation of the Bible. But please don’t insult the Bible. When you do this, it shows how ignorant you are.
Mr. Hahn, you say that the Bible is an “ambiguous book written by anonymous men 2,000 years ago …” Well you are entitled to your opinion, but I feel that you have insulted what I stand for. The Bible is based on love and many of us humans are wrong in the way we translate it.
Now, I’m not saying that I agree with Mr. Wlazkowski’s argument on homosexuality, but I’m not going to disagree with it either.
You see, our history is written by the victors of wars and battles. As you stated, Mr. Hahn, “your religion has been forced on untold millions.”
This statement is incorrect — no one has physically forced you onto the ground and made you choose to listen to the words of God. Sure, Christianity is everywhere you go, but in our society, we do no forcing. People choose what they want in their daily lives; this reflects people as a whole.
So if you see a Christian in Montana or one in Japan, it is because he or she wanted to be a Christian, not because of force. Get that straight.
I would love for everyone to be Christian, but I know that this is futile. After all, we are different and those differences set us apart. You say that you are bombarded by the tenets of a religion — that is a mystery to no one.
Wow!! You must know what happens after we die. Please, could you tell me what happened to my grandfather when he died this summer? Is he truly dead or do you believe in an afterlife?
You see, this is something that you cannot answer, for you do not truly understand the Bible and life. So don’t lie to me, for I will tolerate no such thing. You also wish to point out the blatant contradictions in my Bible. Please, I invite you to do so. But I have faith in what I do and what I believe in.
As for you, Mr. Heynis, you say that “some of those paths condemn homosexuality, and some, like my own, do not.” Please tell me what religion does not condemn homosexuality so that I may read up on it. Once again, let me point out that I don’t condemn homosexuality. I don’t want this to be an us-vs.-them discussion.
I merely found what Mr. Hahn and Mr. Heynis said unappealing to my beliefs; thus, I had to write and express my own views.
I will not judge you, for I am merely a person. Nor will I condemn all homosexual people as Mr. Hahn and Mr. Heynis have condemned Christians. After all, my religion is based on love and I will not dishonor it with my own negativity. Mr. Heynis, you dare Mr. Wlazkowski to find “one shred of evidence in your precious Bible that says your Savior condemned homosexuality.”
Again, you insult what I believe to be the teachings of God. Please let me make this clear: When you insult that which you cannot possibly comprehend, you make yourself look like the fool. I’m not calling you a fool, mind you, it’s just that you obviously believe otherwise and that’s great — believe what you will.
But your response is one of great anger and negativity. If this is how you view things in your religion, then I don’t want to be a part of what you are. Obviously, like Mr. Hahn, you know everything, so please enlighten me.
In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic. You are entitled to your beliefs because it is guaranteed to you by the Constitution of this great country. But please allow Mr. Wlazkowski to share his view, as well as my own view.
I welcome anyone who has an opinion to share it. I will not judge you based on what you believe. Hey, I could be wrong about everything, but then again, I could be right about everything. Eventually, I will find out. You see, some day I will find the truth.
Seek out the truth in your lives, for it is the truth that will set you free.
