Scandanavian Bake Sale
The 40th Annual Scandinavian Coffee will be held today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 1517 Northwestern Ave.
The event includes a bake sale and gift shop in addition to a Scandinavian buffet.
Each fall, the women gather at the church to bake tea rings, potato cakes, lefse, spritz cookies, rosettes, kringla, fattigmond and kurmkake. New recruits learn the specialized baking skills from the accomplished bakers, and in turn pass their new found skills to others in succession.
The Scandinavian Coffee will take place in the church’s decorated commons.
Although the event is free, a donation will be taken and all proceeds from the event will be donated to local service organizations.
The gift shop will include needlework, Scandinavian Roemaling and handcrafted items.
Last year the women served more than 1, 550 cups of coffee during the event. This year they hope history will repeat itself.
