Sigma Kappa wins national award
October 7, 1997
The Sigma Kappa chapter at Iowa State won a national award this summer for outstanding cooperation.
The Alice Hersey Wick Award is given annually to a Sigma Kappa chapter that shows the most cooperation between officers and alumni.
“Our house is really proud because this is a very prestigious award. It makes us proud that we have been recognized for our hard work and cooperation,” said Megan Carstens, chair of public relations and continuous membership at ISU’s Sigma Kappa chapter.
Carstens said every officer writes a report once a year, chapter activities of the charter house is doing.
It is these reports, she said, that determine who wins the award.
Some of the sororities activities include Adopt A Highway and the Alzheimer’s Walk. Sigma Kappa has also hosted several guest speakers.
These accomplishments, Carstens said, have contributed to the community and have helped make the chapter worthy of receiving the Wick award.
The award is given to only one out of the 165 chapters.
Officers of each chapter gather every year for a meeting where the award is given out.
This year, the meeting was held in Indianapolis, and the award was given to Katie Fowler, the president of ISU’s Sigma Kappa chapter.
