Veishea proposal is ludicrous
September 1, 1997
The proposal by President Martin Jischke to eliminate excessive alcohol on campus or eliminate Veishea is ludicrous.
It will be almost impossible to regulate the consumption of alcohol on this campus. We have trouble regulating alcohol now!
There will never be an end to Veishea because politics are involved. The students and alumni will simply not stand for it.
Veishea is a money power house for this school and the financial implications of ending Veishea are too severe. Veishea generates a lot of revenue every year for ISU and the Ames community, as well.
It is the responsibility, however, of the students to maintain the dignity and reputation that Veishea has had and not destroy that reputation by thinking of Veishea as a “big party” — but thinking of Veishea for what Veishea really is: an Iowa State University tradition.
