Iowa State hoops brief

AMES (AP) — Chris Ridens, a freshman basketball player at Iowa State, broke his foot in a pick-up game.

Ridens, a 6-foot-10 forward from Mountain Grove, Mo., broke his right foot Friday. He was scheduled to have surgery Monday, Sept. 22, to put a pin in the foot.

The Cyclones start practice Oct. 18. Ridens is expected to be out of action until at least Dec. 1.

”This may be creating a redshirt situation for him,” coach Tim Floyd said.

This is the third major loss to ISU’s highly touted 1997 recruiting class.

This summer, the Cyclones lost junior college transfer C.J. Bruton to the NBA, and incoming freshman Gerrod Henderson to high school academic difficulties.
