GSB goes on air

For three hours every Monday night on KURE, 88.5 FM, the student body government will take on a new role — radio talk show hosts.

The Government of the Student Body will fill the time slot between 9 p.m. and midnight every Monday night to discuss topics concerning GSB and Iowa State.

Rob Wiese, president of GSB, said having a GSB talk show is a campaign promise he and vice president Matt McLaren intended to keep.

Along with conversation initiated by listeners, Wiese said they will also play requested music to help fill the three hours of airtime.

The GSB talk show will be hosted by Wiese, McLaren, cabinet members and some senators. Throughout the year, Wiese said they hope to have student leaders appear on the show.

Wiese said they want to give people a chance to call in and talk about topics that interest them. “Veishea will probably be a topic that will be most talked about with our first shows,” he said.

To help spark student interest in the show, Wiese said they plan to have prize giveaways.

Wiese said they want to keep the show information, yet interesting for students who tune in.

“We’re trying to get people to apply for committees,” Wiese said. “You don’t have be involved in politics to apply. In fact, we’d like it if you weren’t.”

Wiese said they have about 170 committee member positions to fill. Applications are currently being accepted.
