Full force propaganda
September 11, 1997
After reading “Protest against Catt Hall Continues in Full Force,” one would believe that the September 29th Movement is bigger than ever.
But the contrary is true. The 9/29 is losing steam.
In the last few years, the protests have drawn upwards of 200 people to congregate in locations such as Beardshear and Catt Hall.
But in [Tuesday’s} Daily article, a photo caption states the attendance to be 50 people.
In the story related to the photos, it is stated that 45 people were present.
Given that the count was a rough estimate, possibly somewhat exuberant to justify a front-page headline, I assume the actual attendance was somewhere between 30 to 40 people.
This brings me to the point of this letter.
Why does the Daily sensationalize the activities of the 9/29 Movement?
They weren’t in “full force,” as the Daily stated.
The only momentum the movement still has is generated by the propaganda the Daily produces, which is widely ignored by the student body.
