A cool place to hang out
September 15, 1997
Recognition is nice. The majority of all human beings enjoy being told they have done a good job.
Praise from friends, parents and co-workers is great. It will brighten our day, put a smile on our face and just make us feel happy about life for awhile. But the praise that is bestowed on us from someone we don’t know, especially if they are well-known by others, is really cool.
Let’s take the example of People’s Bar and Grill, a local restaurant/bar that for years has been touted by many Iowa State students as the bar of choice in the Campustown area. People’s employees must love the recognition they receive from many ISU students.
Recently however, People’s Bar and Grill received the ultimate praise for a college town drinking establishment. In the October issue of Playboy magazine, People’s was named as one of the top 100 college bars in the nation.
Wow. This is one of those times that everyone should agree is pretty cool. Even if you don’t like the magazine you must admit it’s pretty cool living in a town with a bar that was picked as one of the best in the nation.
Just think of all the men who read that issue of Playboy (the girls of the Big 10 edition) and how many of them now know where People’s is.
Hey, think about it, amidst all the beautiful women on Playboy’s pages even we Iowa Staters can get recognized. This is the big time, people. And all you guys thought we would never amount to anything.
Now we are national — not national champions, not national doormats; we are on the lips of plenty of Playboy readers and peekers, because Tom Zmolek has one of the hottest places in the Midwest. Thanks Tom, and thanks all you Playboy readers and People’s goers.
