Room for all to speak

Stephanie Holeman

The following letter is a response the the “According to you” letter written by Tony James in the Thursday, September 11 section of the Daily.

Mr. James, you complain about people complaining about Corey Moss’s opinions. While I hate to devote more time to an undeserving subject, I do wish to speak up for the purpose of the “According to you” section of the Daily.

I believe that the purpose of this section is to allow readers space to speak up in agreement/disagreement of columnists, add their input to university issues, comment on local and world news or broach topics they find germane to the university community.

This is why I feel you should not insist that students not write to the Daily. You said, “Please don’t make readers of the Daily like me listen to your crybaby dribble.”

I do not believe that you have the authority to determine who is deserving enough to submit an opinion. When you disagreed with someone, you obviously found it to be your right to submit a letter to the Daily. You must recognize that other students also possess this right. If you don’t want to read a particular part of the paper, don’t read it. No one is “forcing” you to read anything.

With that said, simply read the Daily to end the debate about Sting’s career. The Wednesday, September 10 issue of the Daily printed an AP release regarding Forbes magazine’s recent list of the top 40 best-paid entertainers, of which Sting was listed at number twenty, with an income of 57 million dollars.
