Loyal 311 fan

Ok, so I may be new here. I’m probably that stupid freshman you see wandering around aimlessly on a daily basis, but I just had to put in my two cents after reading Corey Moss’ review on the new 311 album “Transistor.” I am so sick of hearing nothing but negativity about the new album. I came to terms with the fact that most critics don’t know what the hell they are talking about, but I had mistakenly placed too much trust in my fellow students.

Now, I know this is just my opinion, but I for one think “Transistor” is a very creative and well-done album.

I admit it is not my favorite of the 311 CDs; I myself prefer the high-energy, local beats of “Unity” and “Music.” However, I also enjoy the new fresh sound that 311 is developing. It is more mellow, I give you that, but after making music for close to ten years, things are bound to change a little.

I know that I should accept the fact that some people don’t care for, or maybe even hate, 311, but those “old school” fans out there trashing the new album need to take a close look at themselves and their loyalty. If you are a true fan, you love the band through good times and bad; you don’t kick them while they’re down and while everyone else is against them.

311 is proud of “Transistor” and with good reason. It is a wonderfully produced and written group effort from the band and many others who put their time and knowledge into making a ground-breaking new type of music. I will be going back home to see 311 on September 21 and I will be listening for the old as well as the new. Change can be good.
