Stop hazing

Doug Tschopp

Dear Ms. Terri Houston:

On Sunday the 7th of September 1997, there was loud noise coming from Lynn Avenue. I stepped onto the balcony to see what was happening. I saw a rather large number of men dressed in only gym shorts and some had sneakers on and some did not. They were yelling and screaming and also were carrying three men with people holding their hand and ankles.

They were on the east side of Lynn and were also in the street so cars HAD TO STOP for them. At Memorial Lutheran Church (the corner of Lincoln Way and Lynn), they crossed the street to the west side of Lynn and walked across Lincoln Way.

I know the University does not condone hazing. Also I am concerned about the students stopping traffic with a couple of churches in the area and dismissing around 12:00 p.m. on Sundays.

I do not know what fraternity it was. I realize that this was not frowned upon 15 years ago. Today many parts of our society have tried to stop this behavior and have been successful.
