Keep your eyes open big changes are coming
August 26, 1997
Change has always been one of my favorite words.
For me those six little letters represent adventure, excitement and the anticipation of better things to come.
I have never viewed change as bad.
Don’t get me wrong, you can change things and make it worse than before you started messing with it, but the mere fact that you had the courage to try and change it justifies the action in my eyes.
So, keeping that in mind, let me tell you about some of the changes that are or will be taking place at the Iowa State Daily this year.
Now remember, change is good, it may take awhile for us to prove it to you, but trust me, it will be worth it.
In a little more than one month, if all goes well, which it probably won’t, you will pick up the Daily one day and discover it has been totally redesigned.
I’m talking about the logo, the layout, the color, everything — it’s all going to be different. So prepare yourself for some excitement.
And for those of you who visit our on-line edition, you’re also in store for some big changes.
The Daily on-line version will be better looking, easier to search and more informative once our computer gurus and designers work their magic.
While we’re on electonic media discussions, you should also know that our on-line version will soon have information and stories that will not be found in the paper.
We’re going to have reporters who exclusively write stories for the on-line version.
If you have always wanted to have more sports stories in the Daily, here’s your chance. The sports on-line section will provide player stats and bios, game schedules, team records, coach information and team history.
I don’t want to give away all of our trade secrets, but just know the options will be endless.
Ok, now that I’ve started this change, I’ve realized I need some help from all of you.
We at the Daily like to believe we know everything, which, well let’s face it, we don’t. This is precisely why we need some help from you, or devoted and captive readers, to make the paper better.
The Daily is your student newspaper, it’s free, it’s readily available.
By the way, those of you who pick up a Daily on Cy-Ride to read each morning on your way to classes should not get to familiar with the habit.
After another week or so, the Daily will no longer be distributed on Cy-Ride.
It was not our decision, but hey, you can still pick one up once you get to class. Just sit in the back so the professors don’t complain.
There are a lot of other changes that will be implemented at the Daily.
But I love surprises so you’re just gong to have to wait and see.
Just let me remind you that if you ever have a story idea, a question or, dare I say it, a complaint, do not hesitate to contact us.
Remember our staff is mainly all students, who, just like you, try to attend some of our classes and hold down a full time job.
We love it dearly, but it’s not always easy, or fun. So let us know how we’re doing.
So call me at 294-5688, e-mail me at [email protected] or come on over to Room 108 in Hamilton Hall and tell me what we can do to improve the Daily.
