Blink and miss it
June 30, 1997
For those lost souls wandering campus this summer looking for inexpensive entertainment, Student Union Board (SUB) Films and the Maintenance Shop have planned a multitude of summer activities.
SUB Films has begun this summer’s free movie nights. The “I-Blinked-and-Missed-It” film series is dedicated to providing students with a chance to see recent movies that never made it to Ames or were only shown for a short period of time, said Eva Urbatsch of SUB Films.
In addition, each film has been linked with an activity. During the June 26 showing of Fargo, SUB Films held an “Act Like a Minnesotan” contest. Movie goers were invited to get up and tell their favorite Minnesotan joke or speak with a Minnesotan accent.
Prizes are given for the winner of each activity.
“Every film we show, we keep seeing more and more people show up,” Urbatsch said. “The word is getting out.”
The films are shown every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:30, with the exception of Wednesday, July 2, due to the holiday weekend. Admission is free.
“Looking for Richard” is showing tonight, with “Fly Away Home” set for tomorrow.
“Le Hussard Sur Le Toit (The Horseman on the Roof)” will be shown next Tuesday with “Love Jones” on July 10.
The Oscar-nominated “Shine” will be show on July 15.
The Maintenance Shop also has summer activities lined up. According to the M-Shop hotline, Maintenance Theater Production will be staging the “cryptic” play “Darkride.”
The play will be performed at 8 p.m. from Thursday, July 17, through Saturday, July 19. Tickets are $2 at the door.
Updated M-Shop schedules are available on their website at http://www.public.iastate.edu/~stu_org/SUB/MShop/history.html, or call 294-2969.
