No. 15 Iowa State loses first Big 12 dual to No. 3 Oklahoma State

No. 15 Iowa State cruised through the rest of its Big 12 duals entering Sunday’s dual with No. 3 Oklahoma State. The Cyclones struggled to string together many wins against the Cowboys on Sunday, though.

Iowa State (7-2, 4-1 Big 12) lost on the road to Oklahoma State (10-0, 6-0 Big 12) by a score of 22-15.

The Cyclones picked up one of their few wins in the opening match at 157 pounds. Chase Straw picked up a 3-2 decision to take an early lead for the Cyclones.

The Cowboys bounced back with decisions over 165-pounder Logan Schumacher and 184-pounder Sam Colbray. At 174 pounds, Iowa State’s Marcus Coleman lost via pin.

Iowa State earned one more win before intermission with a Willie Miklus 9-6 decision at 197 pounds. The Cyclones trailed 12-6 at intermission.

After the break, the Cowboys kept rolling with a decision over heavyweight Gannon Gremmel and a major decision over 125-pounder Alex Mackall.

The final three matches were a few of the top matches on paper. At 133, it lived up to the hype with No. 3 Daton Fix defeating Iowa State’s No. 7 Austin Gomez, 5-4.

At 141, Iowa State’s No. 15 Ian Parker knocked off No. 12 Kaid Brock, 6-3.

The final match at 149 saw Iowa State’s Jarrett Degen fall behind, but Oklahoma State’s Boo Lewallen suffered an injury and withdrew from the match.
