Iowa State baseball team signs three

The Iowa State baseball team made three acquisitions for the 1997-98 season in the form of catcher Adam Scott, pitcher Charlie Bigwood and shortstop Scott Allen. All three are either Iowa natives or Iowa high school graduates.

Scott, of Iowa Central Junior College, played in the Junior College World Series and was an all-Region 11 selection.

“[He has] a great chance to be our starting catcher, especially since Guye Senjem has graduated,” said ISU athletic department baseball contact Mike Green.

Charlie Bigwood,a pitcher for Clinton High School, was both all- conference and all-Southeast district in his final year of high school.

Allen, a hot-hitting shortstop from St. Charles (Ill.), also has an Iowa connection — he’s originally from Cedar Rapids.

He was both all-conference and all-area in his last two years of high school baseball.

He is not expected to start despite the fact that ISU starting shortstop Rob Ipsen has graduated.

“Though he may play, he could be redshirted (reserved for next season),” Green said.
