Iowa State wrestling defeats Rider 29-17

Iowa State wrestling took care of business on Thursday with a 29-17 team win over Rider.

Redshirt sophomore Alex Mackall started off the dual at 125 pounds with a pin over Rider’s Jonathan Tropea.

The Broncs and Cyclones were then deducted one point each for an unsportsmanlike penalty.

At 133 pounds, star redshirt freshman Austin Gomez was pinned in an upset by Rider’s Austin Cefelo.

At 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore Ian Parker continued the trend with pin over Travis Layton.

Redshirt sophomore Jarrett Degen added on four points for the Cyclones with a 19-6 major decision over Gary Dinmore.

Chase Straw bounced back from his loss against Fresno State with win by 10-4 decision over Rider’s Gino Fluri at 157 pounds.

Freshman Logan Schumacher was pinned by Jesse Dellavecchia at 165 pounds. Schumacher was coming off of his first dual win.

At 174 pounds, redshirt freshman Marcus Coleman came back from nearly getting pinned and was able to take a 16-8 major decision over George Walton.

Redshirt sophomore Samuel Colbray took care of business at 184 pounds with a 12-3 major decision over Rider’s Michael Fagg-Daves.

Redshirt senior Willie Miklus was able to get back in the win column after his surprising loss during the Fresno State dual. The 197-pound wrestler won by 11-4 decision over Ethan Laird.

At heavyweight, redshirt sophomore Gannon Gremmel was pinned by Ryan Cloud to wrap up the dual.

The Cyclones will head to Morgantown on Sunday to take on West Virginia.
