The Veishea question
June 9, 1997
The review is over and it looks like Veishea will continue for another year.
It could be said that this is a good thing but is it really? The review committee did its best at reviewing everything from the Uri Sellers murder to the exclusion of differnt groups from the parade. But it seems as if they missed one important topic Veishea itself and how it is perceived by others.
To most Veishea is supposed to be a celebration of the diferent colleges and students at Iowa State. However it has instead become a celebration of something else entirely.
Veishea in no uncertain terms has become the brainchild of the ISU Greek system. It is the puppy, pet, and bouncing baby of the many different houses on campus.
Is this right? Should the majority of the Veishea council be made up the entire Greek system?
Is it fair for others to participate in the parade as well as other events but not feel like they are getting a fair shake when they are up against Greeks that always side with greeks.
If Veishea is supposed to be a celebration of this great campus then why is it that only the Greek system reaps the benefits?
We know that ISU has one of the strongest Greek systems in the country. So why don’t they try and prove it on a wider scale.
ISU might just be a little tired of it.
