“Skankaholics Unanimous: Under the Influence of SKA”
Various Artists
The latest compilation album from Moon Ska Records is all about the subject that most students hold near and dear: drinking. “Skankaholics Unanimous” has 20 songs from ska bands and artists from around the world singing about beer, whisky and general states of drunkenness.
This compilation features music from some of the pioneers of ska to the groups that are ruling the scene in the ’90s. It also has the debut release from Lower East Side Buck, a group fronted by the guitarist from the Toasters.
The Allstonians pour out the highlight of the disc with “Martinis For Two.” The Porkers also hit the spot with their harsh Aussie brand of ska in “Schooners of the Black.”
Another highlight song is “Brojle” by Sto Zvirat, the premiere Czechoslovakian ska band. The disc ends with the second of two songs by Buford O’ Sullivan, the demo version of “Can I Get Another?”
The entire disc is full of great music, and the only low point seems to be “The Jitters” from Magadog.
“Skankaholics Unanimous” is sure to get you up and dancing and is a wonderful addition to any ska fan’s collection.
