Iowa State cruises past Fresno State, moves to 2-0 in Big 12

Iowa State returned to the mat in Hilton Coliseum on Sunday. 

The Cyclones bumped their dual record to 4-1 and 2-0 in Big 12 duals, while Fresno State slumped to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in conference after Iowa State’s 31-6 win.

The action began at 141-pounds, and Iowa State jumped out with a 19-5 major decision from Ian Parker.

Iowa State’s Jarrett Degen followed with an 11-5 win to push the Cyclone lead to 7-0.

Fresno State bounced back when Jacob Wright knocked off Chase Straw, 5-4.

Logan Schumacher and Marcus Coleman rattled off back-to-back wins at 165-pounds and 174-pounds before intermission to grow Iowa State’s lead to 14-3.

After the break, Sam Colbray earned an 8-7 decision, but Fresno State’s Josh Hokit answered with a 4-2 decision over Willie Miklus at 197-pounds. Shifting the score to 17-6 in Iowa State’s favor.

At heavyweight, Gannon Gremmel delivered an 8-7 decision. With two matches left, Iowa State picked up another win from 125-pounder Alex Mackall on a third period pin, handing the Cyclones a 26-6 lead.

To close the dual, 133-pounder Austin Gomez won by a 24-5 technical fall.
