Bam! Don’t you feel better?

OK. You’re driving down Lincoln Way in a real ticked-off mood.

You’ve missed your first three classes of the day. You’re girlfriend left you. You’re dog ran away. You’re truck’s not running so well. You’re mind’s on a one-track country song motif and it won’t go away.

But there’s hope for a brighter day. Just when you think life here in good ‘ole Ames couldn’t get any lower, it doesn’t. God bless those crazy city construction gurus. They turned to song to lift your spirits.

“This land is your land,” says the first orange sign on the Lincoln Way to campus.

Yes it is.

“This land is my land,” says the second orange sign.

Darn right.

“Just wait ’till August,” says the third orange sign.

No problem.

“We’ll all have Hyland,” says the fourth orange sign.

And maybe a beer, too.

“From the Lincoln Roadway,” says the fifth orange sign.

Oh yeah, baby.

“Up and down to Pammel Drive,” says the sixth orange sign.

You know it.

“Hyland’s being fixed for you and me,” says the seventh orange sign.

You bet it is.

And bam! You feel better, all for looking up at a few construction signs on your regularly routine drive.

Now, we know the patriotic theme is corny, and some of the new lyrics leave slightly more than a lot to be desired, but at least we now know that city bureaucrats have personalities.

So we say kudos to whoever waxed patriotism in the latest batch of Hyland Avenue road construction signs.

They’re funny. They’re cute. They’re original. They’re orange construction signs with song lyrics. And they beat the hell out of losing your girlfriend, your dog and fixing your truck.
