Ames gets close look at Funniest Home Videos

“From coast to coast, America, America, this is you,” croons the theme song of the popular “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
Now Iowa State students have a chance to get in on the fun, and it’s “enough to make you smile.”
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” is coming to the WOI-TV studios in Ames this Saturday.
The entire episode won’t be taped here, though. Bob Sagett, the show’s host, will not be present, either. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” will have a live-from-tape remote to the show’s home studios, said Diane Durham, administrative assistant at WOI.
“The voting is going to be done here as just one of maybe four cities that the show will go to and bring in voting machines. They will probably compile the winner from all the votes from remote locations,” Durham said.
A producer from the show will be here this afternoon or early Friday morning to get things ready for the taping, she said.
This is not the first time “America’s Funniest Home Videos” has been in Ames. Durham said the show came to Ames more than three years ago.
The Ames studio audience will get a chance to vote on the next $100,000 funniest home video grand-prize winner.
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” is in its eighth season and has aired more than 8,500 home video clips.
Each show’s studio audience chooses three winners. The first-place winners receive $10,000 and a chance to compete for a $100,000 grand prize.
Seats for the taping are free and seats are limited to 150 people.
To be in the studio audience and get in on the voting, call 294-5555 for reservations by noon on Friday. Children ages 8 and over may attend if accompanied by an adult.
The taping will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and sign-in starts at 5:45 p.m.
