Frustrating turn of events

Robert Wiese and Ryan Glanzer

Frustration is the best way to describe Wednesday night’s GSB Senate meeting. It seemed apparent to us that many of the senators were not voting the way their constituents directed them to, perhaps not even the way their consciences told them to vote.

When the Cabinet was interviewed, we looked for the best people for the job, and we know the best people were appointed. Jeremy Williams was selected for the position of finance director this year because of his GSB finance experience and experiences outside of the GSB. Jeremy is the best person for the position of finance director. These qualifications were fully explained to everyone at the Senate meeting on Wednesday. What wasn’t explained were the objections to the appointment of Jeremy as finance director.

Two senators had stated their opposition to Jeremy in the past; however, there were still 17 senators who voted against him without expressing their concerns. What’s frustrating for us is that we made every attempt to bring the senators together with the Cabinet to allow any questions about the qualifications of the appointees to be answered. At no point were Jeremy’s qualifications called into question.

We assumed we had picked the best person for the job because the two other seating bills were passed by this same Senate with unanimous consent. When it came to Jeremy, though, no strong opposition was voiced during debate, which anyone would consider a sign of approval. However, 19 Senators voted not to seat him.

We encourage the senators to share any and all concerns with us before the meetings because that is why we are here. All students ought to get involved in GSB and voice their opinions to their senators. How can someone represent you if you never let them know what you want? Please get involved!

We would like everyone to know that our Cabinet will do something this year for you. We will always be here for YOU because YOU made it possible for us to be here.
