Vote for specialty seats

Jillene Hamill-Wilson

I was very happy to finally see that there was reporting concerning the new constitution. It would have been nice to have seen some of this early in the year though.

The concern with the new constitution at this point in time is the specialty seats and the position of the vice-president. Early in the year the concern has been getting quorum so that the meetings could happen. Some people have shown up for the meetings trying to create a new constitution that was more clear and precise, and have worked very hard to create this document. I give them credit for giving up their time and energy every Sunday to do this for the Student Body.

At the last meeting to be held about the constitution certain people showed up who had never been able to find the time earlier in the year, for whatever reason. They wanted to rewrite everything that had been worked on earlier. If there were a problem with what had been written, where were you then? Why bring it up at the last meeting? The “compromise” that was reached was actually a threat made by these new people against the group that had been working all year. If they did not agree to the item they would not vote for the constitution, and all the work that had been done for a year was thrown away. There would be nothing for the student body to vote on.

For John Hamilton to stand up and say that the specialty seats are insulting to the groups they represent is wrong! He doesn’t know about being in these special groups. We are not a small minority and we are not represented any where else! How dare he act like he is representing the interest of our special groups!

The threat is not to the specialty seats alone but to the student body as a whole. They say they represent you, but they are willing to wipe out a document that you might like. Do they represent you?! VOTE YES FOR SPECIALTY SEATS!
