Free the Internet
April 14, 1997
A valuable service may be taken away from college students throughout Iowa. Free access to the Internet is under attack by the state Senate. As students are faced with increases in tuition, housing and food service costs throughout the state we may lose one of the few benefits we receive.
The Internet plays a part in many ways for students, e-mail, Web Sites, Web access for projects, all these have become a valuable resource in our education and are one of the few things we don’t have to pay as much to receive.
Iowa has always been proclaimed as an education Mecca for the nation, but now senators seem to be placing money above the students. While we still have access to our e-mail accounts we should use them to inform Iowa’s senators of the importance Free access is to the students of Iowa State.
Just find the senators FREE.gov address and let them know how you feel. The privitization of our net access as well as Food Service, maybe GSB is more like true government than we ever wanted to realize.
And as a side note, when is Carmen Cerra going on the Daily payroll? His editorials are more interesting than the trite commentary that the staff puts out.
