Gartner to speak Tuesday

Michael Gartner, editor of The Daily Tribune and winner of the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for newspaper editorial writing, will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Ames Public Library Auditorium.

Gartner will talk about speech issues and how words and freedom relate, including the idea that libraries are repositories of knowledge and free speech. Gartner will respond to questions at the end of his presentation.

The event is co-sponsored by the ISU Library Friends and the Friends of the Ames Public Library. The Friends of the Ames Public Library will hold its annual meeting following Gartner’s speech.

ISU Library Friends was founded in 1992 to promote Parks Library, attract financial support and sponsor activities that showcase library resources. Friends of the Ames Public Library promotes the quality and growth of the public library’s resources and services.
