An Ames man was found dead Monday morning after he apparently hanged himself.

Ames police were called to the residence at 1211 Stafford Ave. at about 6:55 a.m. Monday morning after family members found James Robert Magie, 20, dead from an apparent suicide.

Based on evidence found at the scene and an investigation by the Story County Medical Examiner the death was ruled as a self-induced asphyxiation. The Story County Medical Examiner’s office will investigate the hanging further.
