Symphonic Sunday for band

A select group of 55 musicians, both music and non-music majors, will gather Sunday for a performance by the ISU Symphonic Band.

The group will play works by such artists as Julius Fucik, Frank Ticheli and Vincent Persichetti. The band also plans of performing the classic gospel tune “Amazing Grace.”

The band will be directed by Associate Director of Bands at Iowa State, Martin Province.

Province will also direct the 65-member University Band as it takes on the role of opening act for the symphonic group.

The University Band will play works by William Lutham and Daniel Buckvich and will conclude with “An Original Suite” by Gordon Jacob.

Student, guest conductors throughout the afternoon will be Michelle Bovenkamp and Lance Evans.

The concert will be held in the Music Hall Recital Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday.
