Nominees announced for next year’s cabinet
April 16, 1997
Rob Weise, president-elect for the Government of the Student Body, and Matt McLaren, vice president-elect, have announced nominees for next year’s cabinet members.
“We had a lot of good candidates; some had 10 applicants. It was pretty tough,” Weise said.
He described the chosen cabinet members as “change makers.” He said the Senate should easily approve the cabinet at the April 23 meeting in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union.
“The people we have, there’s no way they can’t produce change,” he said.
John Hamilton, an incumbent GSB senator who will again represent the business college next year, would not comment on whether the new cabinet will be approved.
McLaren said they had a wide variety of candidates for the positions from which to choose. “We looked for good people. We advertised and put out applications. The response was very positive. We interviewed all the applicants and picked the best ones.”
Weise said he personally knew “only one or two.”
Ryan Glanzer, a junior in finance and nominated chief of staff, said, “We were looking for people who had motivation and the drive to accomplish something for the students. We based our decision on how much committee experience they had other than GSB.”
The new cabinet members will be seated, if approved by the Senate, after the inauguration, and they are: Ryan Glanzer, chief of staff; Jeremy Williams, director of finance; Trent Preszler, director of legislative affairs; John Hobson, executive secretary/treasurer; Joel Sieran, director of student information; Leonard Bell, director of human relations; Rachel Allbaugh, director of recreation and intramurals; Eric Biga, director of academic affairs; Carissa Wall, director of traffic and transportation; and Neelika Perreira, director of lectures, art and entertainment.
Weise said he wants to maintain an open administration with the public so students can see what GSB is doing.
“We have a really broad experience in their respective areas. They are very involved on campus. Some have a little bit of experience in working on GSB already and that helped out, too,” McLaren said. “We have a really good mix of people and great diversity on the cabinet.”
