The Ames Police Department has been receiving information from citizens who report getting numerous phone calls from solicitors asking for donations to the “police college fund.” The City Clerk’s Office said no such group is registered to solicit in Ames.

The Ames Police Department and the Ames Police Benefit Association are not affiliated with this group, police officials said.

Police suggest that if anyone should be the recipient of a phone call soliciting for the police college fund or any other questionable cause, attempt to get as much information as possible and then contact the Ames Police Department with the information.
