Having faith in student-run organizations
April 4, 1997
Only a cold heart would reject the very blood with which it needs to live. And the people of Veishea have in turn rejected KURE. And so perhaps Star 102.5 is a better choice than KURE — but KURE is STUDENT run — as is Veishea.
Those supporting 102.5 site capitalism (!?) as motive? Hmmm, let me think. It’s not ISU that’s gonna be making any money on the deal; sounds more like wasted spending.
No, this is not about capitalism, this is about integrity and having faith in the student-run organizations that are the blood of this university.
This reminds me of the time when ISU suddenly unveiled its new logo with a spinning Cy. Everyone thought it was great until they realized that the university spent $40,000 on an outside firm in New York to design the logo.
Never once did they turn and let the students and staff of the Design Center or the student body have a go at it first. I’m sure that there were plenty of people here who could have done a better job for little or no money.
We are trapped though. We are trapped in your capitalism. We are no longer open to a great many choices. We are only open to the choices that are made for us by the councils and committees assigned to make those decisions.
But despite all the bad choices made by those councils and committees, I will still recommend others to apply to this school. I will still tell others of how great an experience I had here.
I will encourage charity and goodwill toward this school, because unlike others, I still have faith in Iowa State University.
