ISU baseball team drops third straight game to Cowboys
April 23, 1997
The Iowa State baseball team dropped its third straight game to the 10th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys Wednesday evening at Cap Timm field by a score of 7-4.
Oklahoma State held the lead the entire game, which lasted only two hours and 10 minutes.
ISU committed five errors in the game, which eliminated its chances of a comeback victory.
Iowa State’s scoring came of a Shawn Leimbeck single to right field to drive in Cyclone centerfielder Mike Bahun in the first inning.
The Cyclones scored again in the second inning when Jade O’Brien sacrificed to right field to score Cyclone third baseman Bill Uelmen.
The ISU bats then went cold until the seventh inning when there were back-to-back hits by Guye Senjem and Uelmen.
Designated hitter Scott Vance then grounded out to second base as Senjem crossed the plate for the first score of the seventh inning.
The scoring continued as O’Brien singled in Uelmen to bring ISU’s final run of the game across the plate.
Leimbeck, Uelmen and Senjem all recorded two hits in the Cyclone loss with O’Brien smacking ISU’s seventh hit of the game.
Cyclone freshman Nate Hilton took the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on six hits in the contest.
Iowa State pitcher Scott Grawe was hit by a pitch and forced to leave the game. Grawe was not seriously injured.
The Cyclones will play host to Grand View tomorrow at 3 p.m.
