Students splash in style
April 10, 1997
A night of style and fun will sweep through Iowa State Saturday when the Department of Textiles and Clothing presents its 17th annual fashion show.
The program, dubbed “Splash of Fashion,” will feature the work of student designers from several classes. Sportswear, formalwear and swimwear are among the five categories on display, and as many as 50 models from the Ames community will participate in the event.
Joi Vredenburgh, a junior producer of the event, said the show will not only exhibit the work of students, but also items from clothing stores such as The Buckle, Eddie Bauer, and American Eagle Outfitters. Special guest Judy Preefer, an ISU alumnus, will introduce a collection from her design company in Florida.
Kathi Eggleston, marketing director for the show, said organizers held model tryouts in February. Organizers selected 50 men, women and children.
Workers at Leedz Salon of Ames will donate their time to style the models’ hair and do their make-up.
Vredenburgh said representatives of various area businesses will judge the contest. She said the winners of each category, selected last week, will be announced at the end of the show.
She added that the evening will shed a positive light on the Department of Textiles and Clothing.
“I think it will be very interesting,” Vredenburgh said. “There are some misconceptions about fashion design and the TC program. The fashion show is a really good way to show our abilities.”
The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in 117 MacKay. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in Room 1052 LeBaron Hall or by calling 294-2628.
