Greeks award their own for excellence
March 18, 1997
Daniel Faidley and Andrea Hefty received top greek honors at Vespers, the annual greek awards ceremony, Monday night.
Faidley and Hefty were named Greek Man and Woman of the Year, respectively.
A senior in agriculture business, and member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Faidley is the 1997 Veishea general co-chair, has served on the organization’s executive board and is a past president of his fraternity.
Faidley said he never expected to get the award, but it is “definitely an honor.”
“It makes me reflect on what I have done in the past and proud of my accomplishments,” he said.
Faidley said his strength in leadership comes from the fact that his goal is to empower those around him and let people make decisions for themselves while he provides insight.
Greek Woman of the Year Andrea Hefty, a senior in industrial engineering and a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, was unable to attend Vespers.
She is away on a co-op this semester. Her involvement includes a stint as Panhellenic Council president and a past president of Pi Beta Phi.
Runners-up for Man and Woman of the Year were John Tannehill, a senior in political science, of Sigma Alpha Lambda Fraternity, and Erin Walter, a senior in journalism, of Pi Beta Phi.
Presidents of the year were also announced.
Sorority President of the Year was Amy Jo Quee, a senior in community and regional planning. Runner-up honors went to Haley Aduddell, a senior in chemical engineering, and a past president of Pi Beta Phi.
Fraternity President of the Year was Troy Smothers, a senior in construction engineering, of FarmHouse. Tannehill was the runner-up.
Honors were also given to sorority and fraternity alumni who have remained involved in the greek system.
Alumnae of Delta Zeta, Sandra Horton, was named Sorority Alumnae of the Year.
She has remained active by serving as the collegiate chapter director for 12 years and then serving on the national council for Delta Zeta.
John Flemming, Theta Chi Fraternity adviser, was named Fraternity Alumnus of the Year.
Greek Week events will continue through this week.
